Reformer Pilates is all about tailoring a super versatile and adaptable piece of equipment to what your body needs. It may look like a bed of torture but in fact anyone can use this piece of equipment under careful supervision because it can be adjusted to suit the individual - yes, even in a small group class.
Why would you use a Reformer?
1
Mostly because it is good fun! It will also find your weak areas and will bring results much faster than with matwork alone. There are so many different exercises you can do but by joining a class you will get to grips with the fundamentals and gradually build up - if you’re happy to do so.
Do I need to be fit to join a class?
2
Not necessarily. It will make you fitter for sure, but it can be used by someone who has been sitting on a sofa for years and is fairly disconnected from their muscles consciously! But if this is you, you must take it carefully and book a Beginner class. Listen to the cues and try to keep in alignment as directed. It will make you use your muscles - and so you will feel them working (and for a day or two after) but you can keep things very gentle until you build up your strength. In each class there will be the option of progressions and regressions therefore as you become more experienced you will find there is always the next challenge ahead!
I am already pretty athletic, what will I gain from a Reformer class?
3
You may be a regular runner, cyclist or Olympian, but chances are you will have areas of imbalance in your body we all do and it happens naturally as we age.
For example cyclists often suffer with neck and low back issues. Runners can manage on fairly limited upper body and core strength and all of us tend to overuse bendy joints rather than spreading our movements more easily. All these can be greatly assisted by regular Reformer work.
What classes do you offer?
4
We offer 30 minute taster sessions, weekly Reformer series between 6-7 weeks long, drop in classes for those who need flexibility and 1:1 sessions for those rehabbing an injury or are a little nervous about joining a group class.
Our Reformer classes run throughout the day and evening at different levels ranging from complete beginner to intermediate. They are either 50 minutes long or our ‘blast off’ classes with Jumpboards are 30 minutes long. So whether you have work commitments or are in the depths of childcare, we will have a class for you - we even have a baby friendly class!
